Minseok Kang's JOY ICE CREAM: The Sweet Ice Cream That Stores Memory was held from August 1 to 31, 2024, at the Small Museum on the fifth floor of Starfield City Myeongji in Busan. Combining NFT technology with media art, the exhibition presented a project that stores objects of the real world within a virtual one.
Through the symbolic icon of ice cream, Kang sought to express the way memory is distorted as time passes. Because of its fleeting, easily melting nature, ice cream stands for our memories and the moments of a life.
Ten open-edition prints, ten original sculptures, and thirty media-art works were shown to the public, and within the exhibition space, videos of ice creams in diverse colors and forms were screened on a large display.
Through the fleeting nature of ice cream, the exhibition visually expressed how our memory transforms over time, along with the varied emotions and experiences of contemporary people. Kang emphasized the great meaning held within the small moments of a life.
